Friday, November 13, 2009

HIKE OF THE MONTH:Go to the Potanipo Rail Trail in Hollis for some easy, level walking. Even a toddler can do it! There you can see an active beaver lodge and dam (with a beaver baffler in it to control water level). You might see ducks, geese, herons, turtles too. Access: BBA Parking Area next to Nissitissit River on West Hollis Road in Hollisnear the Pepperell/state line. Hike can be 30 minutes (just to the Great Meadow wetland and beaver area) or up 2 hours by proceeding to Prescott St. Pepperell MA.

About Beaver Brook
The mission of the Beaver Brook Association (BBA) is to promote the understanding of interrelationships in the natural world and to encourage conservation of natural resources through education and land stewardship. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, bird watching, snowshoeing, cross country running and skiing are some of the many activities enjoyed on the 35 miles of trails at BBA. Each trail has been carefully mapped and designated for activities that will have the least impact on that particular area. Trails are open from dawn until dusk, seven days a week. Environmental programs are offered year round to the public, to families, to school groups, libraries and other groups.
